13. My Adventures on the Train
Underestimating time is an old mistake that many a traveler has made. It is generally better to arrive ridiculously early than to think you’re leaving on time and be just late enough to miss something, especially when traveling in a foreign country. Trying to get somewhere early too zealously can backfire just as easily.
When I was in London, I rather impulsively hopped on a train from Paddington Station that I thought was just a normal one heading toward the airport. It turned out to be a special train that charged me a ridiculous amount, no matter how much I protested.
