Isabella Brant

Isabella Brant was a notable figure in 17th-century Flemish society and the first wife of the renowned artist Peter Paul Rubens. Born in 1591 in Antwerp, Belgium, she was the daughter of Jan Brant, a prominent humanist. Isabella was known for her striking physical appearance, characterized by her vibrant, auburn hair and captivating blue eyes.

Her fair complexion and delicate features added to her charm, making her a subject of admiration in her time. Isabella and Rubens’ marriage was celebrated for its deep affection and mutual respect, and she frequently appeared as a subject in his artwork, further immortalizing her in the annals of art history. Tragically, Isabella passed away at the young age of 34, leaving behind a legacy of beauty and inspiration for her husband’s masterpieces.
