In 2020, Italy’s Caprigliola Bridge, a 111-year-old structure near Genoa, succumbed, highlighting Italy’s ongoing infrastructural issues post the 2018 Morandi Bridge tragedy. Originally constructed by Attilio Muggia, the bridge suffered severe damage during WWII due to German-placed mines. It took four years to repair. Seventeen people are currently under investigation for the 2020 collapse, suspected to be due to deck failures, yet no fatalities were reported.
